Review Process

Application Deadlines

The Grants Review Committee accepts grant requests on or before April 1st and October 1st of each year.

 

Exclusions

The Foundation does not make loans nor does it make grants:

•  To individuals for any purpose,

•  To organizations which do not qualify as non-profit under IRS regulations,

•  To institutions primarily supported by government funds,

•  For efforts to influence any election or legislation,

•  For research projects,

•  For debt retirement.

First Time Applicants

1. Call the Executive Director (540.586.5292) to discuss the organization's proposal and to arrange a meeting. A site visit may be required.

2. Be prepared to discuss the following, regarding the applying organization:

•  Leadership,

•  Mission ,

•  Financial status,

•  Non-profit status,

•  The specific program or need for which the funds will be used.

3. If the Executive Director agrees that the request fits within the guidelines of the Bedford Community Health Foundation, submit an original and nine copies of the following:

•  A cover letter, on organizational letterhead,

•  A detailed description of the project,

•  A project timeline,

•  An estimated numbers of participants or some measure of project impact (For organizations outside of Bedford , a detailed analysis of how the program will benefit Bedford citizens must also be included. Note what percentage of the overall program serves Bedford .),

•  A project budget,

•  Other pertinent data.

And one copy of:

•  IRS 501(c)(3),

•  List of Officers and Directors,

•  Latest financial statement and current budget.

Grant Review Process

All grant proposals are reviewed by the Grants Review Committee. The committee briefs the Board of Trustees on their findings regarding the request and requesting organization and makes a recommendation for approval or denial of the request. After discussion, the Trustees will vote to:

1. Approve the request as submitted,

2. Approve a portion of the request,

3. Deny the request,

4. Defer action on the request until more information can be obtained.

(This may require the organization to make a formal presentation to the Board of Trustees at a subsequent meeting.)

The Executive Director will inform the organization, in writing, of the decision of the Board. A representative of the organization will be asked to attend the next Board of Trustees meeting to receive the check. All grant recipients are required to:

•  Publicize the grant award,

• Routinely acknowledge the Bedford Community Health Foundation as a supporter of organizational programs or services,

•  Complete an outcome evaluation of the project.

Grant Request Submission

Please provide six copies and a CD of the grant request and one copy of the supporting organizational and financial documentation to:
